Well, everyone's doing it, so why not jump on the bandwagon. (also, my first 2013 journal)
First off, I'm REALLY happy that the announcement was of Gen 6 and not RS remakes, cause honestly, despite what most people want, I don't really want RS remakes, not yet at least. I was also kind of getting bored of Unova, and I honestly didn't see them really continuing Gen 5, as they did all they really could with Unova in BW2.
First off, my first impressions: Game Freak is really stepping up their game this Gen, no more sprites (which I will miss), it will be all 3D this time, which is understandable since this is the 3DS after all, though I'm gonna miss sprites, we do have cel-shaded 3D models that have a bit of a sprite-ish feel to them, this is good though, but a bit odd. As for the region, looks like we'll be going to France this time, which I find an odd choice for a region, I'd expect them to do a region based more on the UK than France if they were choosing European nations, but maybe that's just my preference.
Now for my thoughts on the starters:

I'll start with Fennekin, the fire fox, a lot of people like this one in particular, and to be honest, I really like it too, I actually predicted months earlier that one of the Gen 6 starters might be a fox, and I was right, though I was kinda leaning towards it being a grass type, but a Fire type fox is fine too. I do feel that the concept of a fire type fox Pokemon was done before with Vulpix and Ninetales (and that's probably because I'm a huge Ninetales fan), but at least they're trying to be different with Fennekin in ways, which I do like. Not hating on Fennekin, definitely not, cause I like Fennekin, I just currently prefer the Vulpix family more, that's all
A lot of people like Fennekin the most, I like it as well, but it's not my favorite fire starter in the series, that goes to Cyndaquil.

My favorite one of the three is Chespin, I just find it very cute and energetic looking, it's an interesting concept and design, being a departure from the usual grass starter being a green reptile, and instead being a brown and green mammal. As for what mammal it's based on, most people say it's a rodent like a chipmunk, but I honestly think it may be based on a badger, mainly due to markings on it's body, and clawed feet, which is not something you see on most rodents.

Now Froakie is probably my least favorite of the starters, but before you get me wrong, I definitely do NOT hate Froakie, I actually like it slightly more than some of the older water starters, with the exception of Oshawott, cause I'm a Dewott fan and own an Oshawott plush. I kinda hope it evolves to a Water/Poison type, and is a mighty frog king in it's final form, though nothing beats a Samurai Sea lion like Samurott.
Overall, I hope this is a great generation, and a nice way to bring Pokemon to the 3DS after a few spinoffs, yeah Gen 5 was short, but I hope Gen 6 lasts a while, so for now, let's welcome the new generation!
Are you with me in assuming the Special Edition is going to be "Pokemon Z?"
Red + Blue, followed by Yellow = Primary Colors
Ruby + Sapphire, followed by Emerald = Three widely known gems
The same would work for X + Y, followed by Z. X + Y, followed by Z = The last 3 letters of the alphabet.
Though you could argue against it by saying that the color Crystal has no relation to Gold and/or Silver, and that Platinum is not a gem like Diamond and Pearl are, and that Black and White got Black 2 and White 2.
As for Fennekin, I still like it. I just hope that its popularity will not hide the other starters, because that will eventually make me hate it. I was okay with Snivy until everyone started hating Tepig and Oshawott just because of Smugleaf.
Honestly, I remember when that happened that it drove me away from the Unova starters until their evolutions were revealed, by which the time I began to be attached to Oshawott, by the time the English names were revealed, the "Smugleaf" trend began to die out, and now many people can barely remember it, this allowed me to trust Snivy again. Of course, don't get me wrong, Snivy is my favorite of the Gen 5 starters (and Serperior is my favorite Grass type), but back then, I despised Snivy, and while I do like Fennekin, it hasn't been given the notoriety Smugleaf had yet.
Also, what do you think of Chespin? It's my favorite of the bunch
Chespin? I'm glad that it is not a reptile for once ^^ It looks cute and energetic, and I'm sure that I will like it a lot one day!
Chespin is definitely my favorite of the starter trio, even though it's evolutions are not revealed yet. But it's definitely not going to be my favorite Gen 6 Pokemon overall, since I avoid choosing a favorite of a new generation until the generation is out, that's how Mienshao became one of my favorite Pokemon.
