New Pokemon OR/AS Info: August 2014

Now you've probably been wondering why I delayed this journal a few days since CoroCoro leaked and the recent trailer came out. well, there are two reasons why, the first being because of real-life issues getting in the way, the second being... well, I don't really have much to say about this issue because there's not much new information to dissect. Plus on a related topic, even though it's 3 months away, I may not be able to afford OR/AS upon release because of financial issues at the moment.

Also, let's just say that I'm not a big fan of what's been revealed this issue, and I apologize in advance if I sound somewhat nitpicky, but I'll get to why in a moment...

Contests and Cosplay Pikachu Rant
First off is contests, and I honestly don't have anything to say about them, it's not that I have a problem with contests. There's also this new character named Lisia who, like Aarune, has a Pokemon partner (an Altaria instead of a Flygon) and she's a "Contest Idol" (why not use the term "Coordinator" like the anime does) who's popular in Hoenn and apparently helps the player at points, I don't know what with since the only thing she does that's known so far is give you costumes to wear during contests, which I don't really see a need for.

Speaking of pointless costumes, there's the Cosplay Pikachu, which I honestly think is pointless. I mean, why is it even called "Cosplay Pikachu" when it's not even cosplaying as anything but itself in ridiculous clothing, and what purpose does it even exist for other than to push Pikachu in our faces more. Even for a franchise mascot, I feel Pikachu doesn't deserve this much attention; seriously, there are 700+ other Pokemon, what's wrong with all the other Pokemon, just because Pikachu is the franchise mascot does NOT mean you have to treat it like it's above all the other Pokemon, including legendaries. If I wanted a Pikachu, I'd go catch a Pikachu in the wild and have it participate in contests, not put on a silly costume for it to wear, because I honestly find this Pikachu to be completely pointless.

Also, it seems like this Pikachu may be female only given the heart-shaped tail, and given how their treating it I highly doubt it's going to be able to evolve. Do you think Nintendo have something against Raichu, and shouldn't Raichu be on the same level as Pikachu, because Pichu is treated better than Raichu is. I feel that Nintendo does a horrible job in trying to make their mascot likable by shoving it down our throats. No offense to anyone who likes Pikachu, but it's true.

Mega Evolutions
So, now we have Mega Salamence, Altaria, and Lopunny, and while it's nice to see that a Gen 4 Pokemon is getting a Mega, it's just that... can I say that I am kind of getting sick of Mega Evolutions? Again, no offense to anyone who likes them, but I feel like they have become too gimmicky anymore.

Now I don't have a problem with Mega Evolutions as a concept, especially since the concept of a super-form is nothing new in Japanese media (Super Saiyans in Dragonball Z, Dragon Slayer Mode in Fairy Tail, etc.), and I could tolerate Megas at first, but it seems like they've turned the entire franchise into being strictly about Mega Evolutions and almost nothing else. I mean, ever since X/Y came out, it's been Mega this and Mega that, almost every distribution event has been about Megas (like the Torchic event when X/Y came out, the recent Heracross/Pinsir event, and the upcoming Shiny Beldum event), the recent Diancie movie had "Mega Diancie", and so much more. If it was just Mega Sceptile/Blaziken/Swampert, I'd be fine, but it feels like they're just shoehorning Megas in right and left now. Heck, even the new Primal Groudon and Kyogre are pretty much just Mega Evolutions with a different name, and they are even implying a link between the two.

I apologize if I went on a bit of a rant there, but to me, I feel like the Pokemon franchise is getting a bit too gimmicky lately with such things like these. This isn't stopping me from getting the games, but it's kind of making me start to slowly lose interest in the franchise. To me, if a series starts relying on gimmicks too much, it can actually kill that franchise for many people.
